Why Pikorua
Pikorua is both a name and a philosophy. It honours my father, Piko, whose life reflected service, integrity, and care for others.
The Pikorua design reflects this way of working. The paired spirals speak to continuity across generations, the meeting of different worlds, and the responsibility of holding multiple perspectives at once — past and future, people and assets, purpose and discipline.
Together, the name and the design embody values grounded in Te Ao Māori — including stewardship, collective responsibility, and intergenerational wellbeing — and express a commitment to supporting organisations to exercise stewardship thoughtfully, responsibly, and with a long-term view.
Our Values
Alongside this legacy, my work is guided by values reflected in the maunga — resilience, endurance, and strength shaped over time.
Standing firm against the elements, the maunga holds steady through changing conditions and provides orientation when circumstances are uncertain.
These values sit alongside the Pikorua kaupapa, complementing a way of working grounded in care, responsibility, and long-term stewardship.
How I think
My work is grounded in the belief that wise decisions emerge from careful framing, clear architecture, and an understanding of responsibilities, behaviours, and the mechanisms needed to manage risk and complexity.
I am particularly interested in how commercial discipline and stewardship intersect — and in designing structures that ensure those worlds meet without compromising their integrity.
How I work
I am most often engaged at formative stages or key decision points, when there is an opportunity to shape direction and embed structures that will endure.
Engagements are tailored and pragmatic, shaped by context rather than a fixed methodology.
My role is often to help create space to test options, examine assumptions, and establish a sound base before decisions are set.
Background
My background spans senior commercial, investment, and governance roles across the public, private, and purpose-led sectors. I have worked with complex group structures and organisations responsible for long-term assets and intergenerational outcomes.
I now work independently through Pikorua Consultancy Limited, supporting organisations where long-term stewardship and sound governance are paramount.
